Live music, colourful street art, market stalls and great authentic food will converge on the streets of Liverpool this week.

“If there’s a day in your calendar you don’t want to miss this year it’s Liverpool’s Street Art Festival on Saturday August 13,” CEO Michael Cullen said.

“Preparations are almost complete with a number of colourful murals and art installations popping up around the city centre.”

“This has set the scene for a fun-filled day designed to showcase our city as a lively, dynamic and inclusive destination with a creative edge.”

“Liverpool’s high population of young people will thrive on this opportunity to meet some of the country’s most talented street performers, artists and musicians.”

The event is being held at Bathurst Street South Carpark on Saturday from 3pm-8pm.

The program will include performances from Shaun Parker and Company, Jamestown Collective, Revolution Incorporated and Circaholics Anonymous.

Amanda Parer’s globe-trotting Intrude installation featuring a collection of giant, inflatable rabbits are now in place, as are artworks by Mulga, Skulk, Chocolate Einstein, Alex Lehours and Phibs.

Festival Director Vi Girgis said the event is an opportunity for audiences from around Sydney and elsewhere to experience the cultural delights that Liverpool has to offer.

“It’s extremely exciting to be able to present such a talented group of performers and artists including Amanda Parer and Shaun Parker and Company.”

“Their international brand will do wonders for Liverpool’s status as a thriving city on the up.”

“Previously, you wouldn’t have imagined artworks and performances of that calibre to be found on the streets of Liverpool. But now, here they are for all to enjoy.”

Mr Cullen said the event fits in perfectly with Council’s vision to turn the southern end of Macquarie St into a future eating and dining street precinct.

“This event complements the Building Our New City program which has already commenced in parts of the Great South West.”

“It is hoped that the Street Art Festival will become an annual fixture on Council’s event calendar that will continue to evolve as our city grows.”

“What better way to sell the Great South West to the world than by staging an event with massive street art, top class entertainment and food from every corner of the globe.”

Entry to the event at Bathurst St South Carpark is free. Parking will be available at Crunch Gym car park, Speed Street car park, Liverpool Train Station commuter car park, and Northumberland Street car park.
