An off-duty NSW police officer has been charged with drink driving after a six-car crash in Sydney’s south.

Just after 7.15pm on Sunday emergency services responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the Princes Highway at Blakehurst.

Police say a BMW sedan and a Mitsubishi Outlander, both travelling south, collided before hitting four other cars in the northbound lanes.

The 38-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi and his passengers, a 32-year-old woman and an 18-month-old girl, were taken to St George Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

A 32-year-old female passenger in another car was also taken to hospital with an injured elbow.

The BMW driver, a 21-year-old man, underwent a breath test at the scene which allegedly returned a positive result.

The man, who is a constable attached to the Central Metropolitan Region, was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where a subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of 0.126, police said.

He was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA and will appear in Sutherland Local Court on October 1.

His licence has been suspended and his duty status is being reviewed.
