The Centre Daily Times is reporting that EMS calls in the State College area were delayed Saturday because of incidents related to State Patty’s Day.

State Patty’s Day is the student-created holiday that falls each year between Thon and St. Patrick’s Day. The day, which started in 2007, is marked by heavy drinking.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, ambulances were delayed by at least 10 minutes as EMS officials scrambled to attend to those suffering the effects of so much alcohol. Police stepped in to help.

“What that will do is people who are having heart attacks or other events are being delayed because of the poor decisions of people who are doing other things,” State College police Capt. Chris Fishel told the Centre Daily Times.

Calls to police include underage drinking, furnishing alcohol to minor, public urination and various noise violations.
